Terms of use

Last updated 13 September 2026

These are the rules for using Machi.study. They’re short because you should be able to read them. By using Machi.study you’re agreeing to them.

1. We don’t charge students

We don’t put a paywall on studying. No study feature is locked, capped or held behind a payment, and there is no paid version to buy. We intend to pay for it with advertising, and if that ever changes we’ll say so before it happens, not after.

2. How old you have to be

To have a Machi.study account you must be 13 or over. At any age, with no account, you can make one set of your own and study it, or open a set somebody sent you and study that, and all of it stays in your browser. An account keeps your sets, carries them between your devices, and is what you need to share a set. See the privacy policy for why.

3. Your sets are yours

Everything you write on Machi.study — your sets, your cards, your notes — belongs to you. We don’t claim to own it and we never will.

For Machi.study to work at all, you give us permission to store your sets, show them back to you on your devices, and pass them to anyone you share a link with. That permission is only for running Machi.study. We won’t put your sets in an ad, sell them, or publish them anywhere.

If you delete a set, we delete our copy. If you delete your account, we delete all of them.

4. Sharing means copying

When you share a set and somebody saves it, they get their own copy. It carries your name as the person who made it, if you set one.

You can stop sharing whenever you like, and every link you sent stops working. What that doesn’t do is reach copies people already saved: those stay with the people who made them, and deleting your original doesn’t touch them. Think of it like handing out photocopies — once somebody has one, it’s theirs.

Links made before 1 September 2026 could carry the whole set inside the link itself. Machi.study doesn’t make those any more, but any that were already sent still open, and those ones can’t be called back.

Only share sets you’re happy for other people to have. If you haven’t shared a set, nobody else can see it.

5. What you may not put on Machi.study

Do not upload:

  • Somebody else’s work that you don’t have permission to copy — a textbook scanned page by page, for example.
  • Anything that attacks or harasses a person, or that targets somebody because of who they are.
  • Sexual content, or anything sexual involving children.
  • Real personal information about another person — their address, their phone number, their photo — without them saying you may.
  • Anything illegal where you live.

You’re responsible for what you put in your sets, and for what happens to a set once you share the link.

6. Using Machi.study fairly

Do not:

  • Try to reach anybody else’s sets, account or data, or look for holes that would let you.
  • Run scripts, bots or scrapers (programs that copy a site automatically) against Machi.study.
  • Deliberately overload it, or break it for other people.
  • Pretend to be somebody else, or to be part of the Machi.study team.

If you find a security problem, please tell us instead of using it: privacy@machi.study. We’d rather hear it from you.

7. We don’t promise Machi.study will always work

Machi.study is provided as it is, free, with no guarantee. We can’t promise it will always be available, that it will never lose anything, or that everything in it is correct. Sets are written by students, so a set someone shared may be wrong.

Keep your own backup of work you care about. Settings has a button that saves everything to a file, and it takes one press.

To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that come from using Machi.study — including lost work, a missed deadline, or a grade. Nothing here takes away a right you have by law that cannot be signed away.

8. Ending an account

You can stop using Machi.study whenever you like, and you can delete your account yourself in Settings, under Account. It asks once, and then everything on the account goes. If you’d rather we did it, email privacy@machi.study.

We may suspend or delete an account that breaks section 5 or section 6, or that is being used to harm somebody. Where we reasonably can, we’ll say why first and give you a chance to explain. If your account is deleted for a serious reason, your sets go with it, which is another reason to keep a backup.

9. When these terms change

The date at the top says when they last changed. If we change something important we’ll say so on Machi.study itself. Carrying on using Machi.study after that means you accept the new version; if you don’t, stop using it and ask us to delete your account.

10. Contact

Machi.study is run by an individual, not a company. Questions about these terms go to privacy@machi.study.

These terms were written by the people who built Machi.study, not by lawyers, and they’re not legal advice. They should be reviewed by a real lawyer before Machi.study is used at any serious scale.
